For those interested in arbitrage opportunities, I recently noticed some variances in the odds coming from Vegas, and those from TradeSports, on who will win the NHL’s Stanley Cup in 2007.
A nice little chart should showcase the differences.
Now, a couple caveats. I am not a mathematician, or even a mildly okay statistician, but my calculations, rough as they are, do help for purposes of comparison (I hope). Also, the TradeSports 2007 Stanley Cup winner market is not as liquid as, say, the NYSE, so there tends to be some wide variances in prices.
But, ignoring all that, hockey fans and arbitrageurs might be interested in the differences that emerge for certain teams, highlighted above.
A tradeable arbitrage, well, maybe not … but, if you were to play it, you’d sell Buffalo, Calgary, and Nasville on TradeSports and buy them in Vegas … and do the opposite for Ottawa, Dallas and Carolina.
As always, thanks for listening.
