A whole bunch of information architects showed up in Las Vegas this past weekend for the annual IA Summit. It could be considered an appropriate place for my presentation – on prediction markets – but not so much for a very nerdy group of IA’s. As one conference attendee put it: “It’s so easy to pick the IAs out of the crowd – they’re the geeks.”
That said one attendee, rigidly following the instructions on a “how-to-play-blackjack” tip sheet, picked up at the casino shop, won several thousands dollars. His secret: don’t drink the free drinks they throw at you and consistently follow the instructions. Of course he could have just been lucky, too.
Anyway, here’s the presentation I gave:
An Introduction to Prediction Markets (Final presentation)
A much longer, initial version is here:
An Introduction to Prediction Markets (an earlier version)
In addition I said I would post some links to resources for prediction markets. Perhaps the best place to start is Wikipedia’s entry on prediction markets. This has a rather lengthy list of resources, articles, academic papers, companies, etc. etc. etc. If that doesn’t answer all your questions, please let me know.

[...] You can get the presentation, and an earlier draft (I had to cut a lot to fit it into an hour preso) at http://www.usablemarkets.com. [...]
Really enjoyed the presentation! Keep up the great posts and good luck with your next venture!
