Refining Search on eBay Desktop

November 5th, 2007 · No Comments · Auction Markets, Usability

One of the things the new eBay desktop application does well is its integration of browse and search, and refining those search results.

For example, as in this case, a user can browse to the category: Cameras & Photos > Film Cameras > 35mm SLR, and then view all items in that category. Upon viewing the results, they can then fine tune them to be exactly what they want via a variety of keyword selections.

This, in and of itself is nothing revolutionary, but the easy way one can duplicate a boolean NOT search is very nice.

And, in addition, as you select keywords, the search results updates, the keywords available to you update, and a search is formed for you in the search bar. This is search refinement happening on a variety of levels.

To remove a keyword, the user just clicks on the activated plus or minus button.

Nice job.

As always, thanks for listening.
