The FT does a nice job of reviewing the rise of real time content. It starts:
With the maximum 5,000 friends on Facebook, subscriptions to 13,000 on FriendFeed and “following” more than 86,000 people on Twitter, Robert Scoble is struggling to cope with social media’s move to a real-time world.
This is a problem we all face, although maybe not at the same portion size as Mr. Scoble. And it’s clear that real time feeds is essentially the new email, with the same attendant problems of management.
But, as the FT point out, the attraction of real time feeds is clear: everyone can participate, and there’s an immediate reward for participating. In short (and perhaps somewhat abstractly, we are all writing one big TV show for our own consumption. Fascinating, right?
But where this will all end up, nobody knows.
